Emily Berge was raised in southern Iowa on thunderstorms and Friday night football games. A writer and filmmaker based in the Hudson Valley, Emily and her partner Spencer Thielmann had their work featured on Short of the Week, Palm Springs Shortfest, New York City Comic Con, as well as being screened at the British Film Institute.
Emily attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a degree in Film & Television with a focus in Screenwriting. As a student, she read professionally for Indian Paintbrush, 20th Century Fox, and Random House Studios, as well as working for VH1. Emily has previously worked in publishing in creative development, marketing, and for a literary agency. She is currently an MFA candidate in fiction at the Bennington Writing Seminars.
Her debut middle grade novel, THE LAST MERMAID OF THE MISSISSIPPI, is set to be released by Aladdin, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.
